Tharenos Wins Second Twilight Event

Athena Tharenos The College of Wooster cross country teams hosted its annual Twilight 5K Challenge under the lights at John P. Papp Stadium on Friday.

Senior Athena Tharenos won the women's event for the second time in her career, having won the event before in 2021. She finished in 18:17.8, just ahead of junior teammate Dylan Kretchmar, who crossed in 18:22.7.

Tharenos averaged a 5:53 mile, while Kretchmar averaged 5:54.5.

Wooster welcomed Oberlin College and Allegheny College for the event as the women put together a field of 21 runners.

Juniors Jessie Breth and Isabelle Dwyer came in seventh and eighth, respectively. Breth finished in 20:10.5, and Dwyer finished in 20:13.4.

First-year Reeve Helvoigt claimed 10th with a time of 20:24.5.

Elsewhere, Zanna Anderson finished 14th, Lily Baker came in 17th and Julianna Fiori rounded out the field in 21st.

For the men, junior Eric Johnson was the top finisher. He finished fourth with a time of 15:59.3.

Wooster had 16 men compete in the 29-runner field. Joe Ahmann claimed a top 10 spot, finishing 10th in 16:44.6. First-year Nick Schade came in 13th at 16:55.1, and sophomore Zane DeMercurio finished 15th in 17:00.3.

This was a final warm up for both teams with the NCAA Division III Regionals around the corner on Nov. 11.
