After picking up a win at the most eastern part of the North Coast Athletic Conference last week, The College of Wooster travels to the western edge of the conference where it will face-off against DePauw University (1-0, 0-0 NCAC) in Greencastle, Ind., on Saturday, Sept. 19. The youthful Fighting Scots hope to move to 2-0 in the league standings, while the Tigers, who welcomed back 19 starters from last season, will be making their 2015 home and NCAC debuts, are looking to build on an opening 53-0 triumph over Earlham College. Kickoff at Blackstock Stadium will be at 1 p.m. EDT.

On the Air: Wooster's football games are broadcast each week by commercial radio station WKVX 960 AM and are streamed live on wkvx.com.

Also, DePauw will be providing a live video stream at http://portal.stretchinternet.com/depauw/.

All-Time Series: This is the fourth season in a row DePauw and Wooster have played, but just the sixth overall. The Tigers have won two of three meetings since they joined the NCAC, with a 27-24 Wooster win sandwiched around DePauw wins of 42-13 in 2014 and 27-16 in 2012. In the 1975 opener (Sept. 13), the Tigers prevailed in Greencastle, Ind., by a 28-8 score, and the Scots responded two years later, also a season opener (Sept. 17, 1977), with a 31-0 shutout victory.

Last Week: Wooster's defense came up with six takeaways and the offense scored one touchdown during each quarter en route to a convincing 28-13 victory over Allegheny College in the teams' NCAC opener at a rainy and windy Frank B. Fuhrer Field in Meadville, Pa.

The six takeaways were the most by the Scots since also getting six at Ohio Wesleyan University on Sept. 25, 2010.

Wooster set the tone early, as Patrick Johnson (Homewood, Ill. / Homewood-Flossmoor) ripped the ball from an Allegheny ball carrier and recovered the fumble himself on the game's very first possession, giving the offense possession in Gators' territory.

David Smith (Upper Arlington, Ohio / Upper Arlington) directed the Scots down field 46 yards in 10 plays, as he ran once for 14 yards and completed 3-of-4 passes for 15 yards, including a four-yard touchdown to Tyson Vogel (Ashland, Ohio / Ashland). It was both the first career touchdown pass for the senior quarterback and the first career score for the junior wide receiver.

Early in the second quarter, the Gators fumbled again, this time forced by defensive tackle Riley Markko (South Salem, Ohio / Paint Valley) and recovered by safety Christian Golden (Aurora, Ohio / Bedford). The offense didn't take advantage, but it got another opportunity later in the quarter when Stephen McKinney (Lampasas, Texas / Lampasas) strip-sacked the quarterback, with Derrick Florence II (Jacksonville, Fla. / Paxon School) recovering the fumble at the 27.

Five plays later, the Scots were in the end zone, courtesy of another Smith-to-Vogel connection, this time from 18 yards away, and it was 14-0 at halftime.

Wooster extended the lead to 21-0 the second time it gained possession in the third quarter, grinding out a 15-play, 74-yard drive, capped by a four-yard Russell Boston (Renton, Wash. / Liberty) touchdown run. It marked the first collegiate touchdown for the freshman running back.

The Scots' shutout bid ended early in the fourth, thanks in large part to a mishandled snap on a punt as Allegheny took over on the 14-yard line and scored on the ensuing play.

Wooster sealed the outcome later in the fourth when, after a Johnson interception, Boston broke loose two plays later for a 35-yard touchdown.

The Gators tacked on a late score for the final 15-point margin.

Statistically, the Scots outgained the home team 285-161, but it was their plus-five advantage in turnover margin that made the biggest difference.

Smith was an efficient 17-of-28 for 107 passing yards with the two touchdowns, and Vogel was his top target throughout as they connected eight times for 60 yards. Boston led the rushing attack with 97 yards on 17 carries.

In addition to the aforementioned takeaways, Adam Coppock (Columbiana, Ohio / Crestview) had an interception and Keith Lemke (Loudonville, Ohio / Loudonville) recovered a fumble. Notable, McKinney and defensive tackle Aaron Roberson (Southfield, Mich. / Detroit Country Day) collected 2.0 sacks apiece.

This and That: Wooster used just 39 players in last week's game at Allegheny, and of those more than half were underclassmen (11 freshmen, 9 sophomores) ... The 161 yards allowed by the defense at Allegheny was the lowest amount since the 2008 season when the Scots yielded just 131 against Wittenberg University on Nov. 15, 2008 ... The Scots are sporting new logos on each side of their helmet, plus a new tartan stripe down the middle, and new addidas® uniforms this season ... Wooster already faced one nationally-ranked opponent and will likely face two more this year in current No. 9 Wabash College and No. 17 Wittenberg University. Third-year head coach Frank Colaprete is 12-5 when facing unranked competition and 0-5 versus top-25 teams.
