Wooster Opens Fall Slate at Own Gatorade Collegiate

DOVER, Ohio - The College of Wooster men's golf team placed ninth at the season-opening Gatorade Collegiate, co-hosted by the College and Zoar Golf Club, on Saturday and Sunday. Wooster's starting lineup turned in back-to-back rounds of 312 to finish at 624.

Ohio Wesleyan University won the 10-team tournament with a two-day total of 579 - 3-over-par - at the par-72, 6,730-yard course.

Allegheny College's Collin Haag claimed medalist honors with an 8-under-par 136. On Sunday, Haag matched the Zoar Golf Club competitive course record with a 7-under-par 65.

Freshman Evan Jenkins strung together two solid rounds in his first collegiate tournament to earn a spot on the all-tournament team via his co-fifth-place finish. Jenkins, who competed in the tournament as an individual, turned in a 147 for the weekend. On Sunday, he birdied the par-4, 421-yard 18th hole to finish the second round with a 1-under-par 71.

Sophomore Raghu Bir Choudhary led the way for the Scots on Saturday. Playing in the No. 2 position in the lineup, Bir Choudhary shot a 1-over-par 73. He finished at 151 after a 78 on Sunday and tied for 17th.

Sophomore Ric Reynolds also finished at 151 and in the tie for 17th-place. He turned in a very consistent weekend with rounds of 75 and 76 respectively.

Three Scots turned in 154s on the weekend and tied for 32nd. Those Wooster student-athletes were sophomore Andrew DeLaat - who captained the lineup at the No. 1 spot - freshman Paul Ryee, and senior Scott Sears, who competed as individuals.

Wooster's lineup was rounded out by freshman Jimmy Hinton (158) and seniors Michael Bay (161), and Jackson Groat (165), who tied for 45th-, 54th-, and 58th-place respectively.

The Scots are without the services of Brenden Tully this fall, as the junior is studying abroad.

Wooster returns to action at the Guy V. Kuhn Invitational at the Country Club of Meadville in Meadville, Pa. next week Sunday (Sept. 11).
