Wooster won the first team point of the match thanks to an 8-2 win by first-year Joaquin Abos Amo and sophomore Nathan Devereux, and the Scots nearly had a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.

The College of Wooster men's tennis team struck first with a win at No. 2 doubles, and nearly had a 2-1 lead on No. 19 Kenyon College heading into singles, but the Lords' top doubles flight won the tiebreaker and Kenyon rode that momentum to a singles sweep in its 8-1 win over the Fighting Scots on Wednesday afternoon at D.J. Hard Tennis Courts in Wooster, Ohio.

First-year Joaquin Abos Amo and sophomore Nathan Devereux sparked Wooster (7-10, 0-2 North Coast Athletic Conference East Division) with an 8-2 victory over Kenyon's (14-3, 1-0 NCAC East Division) Bryan Yoshino and Michael Liu.

Senior Titas Bera and junior Jesse DeWitt took Kenyon's Austin Diehl and Jacob Zalenski the distance with the match tied at one before falling 9-8 (5) in the top doubles flight.

In singles play, Kenyon won all six matches in straight sets, but Abos Amo hung in there with regionally-ranked Jacob Zalenski in the second set, and in fact, won four games off of the region's fourth-ranked singles player.

At the top flight, Bera was upended 6-2, 6-0 in a matchup between a pair of regionally-ranked singles players.

Next, Wooster takes on Allegheny College (7-4, 0-0 NCAC East Division) at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Should the match shift indoors, it'll be played at 11:30 a.m. at Pennbriar Athletic Club in Erie, Pa.
