Scots Conclude Home Schedule with 8-1 Loss to Regionally-Ranked Wabash

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's tennis team fell 8-1 to regionally-ranked Wabash College on Saturday afternoon at D.J. Hard Memorial Courts as part of "Family Weekend" for the Fighting Scots.

The Little Giants (13-10, 2-2 North Coast Athletic Conference West Division) entered as the 13th-ranked team in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region poll and came out of doubles play with a 2-1 lead before claiming all six singles flights, three of which went to a third set.

Sophomore Nathan Devereux and first-year Joaquin Abos Amo improved to 6-3 on the year at No. 2 doubles with an 8-6 win over Wabash's Andrew Denning and Jordan Greenwell. At No. 1, senior Titas Bera and junior Jesse Dewitt lost 9-7 to the top-ranked doubles pair in the region in William Reifeis and Patrick McAuley, while first-year Jorrit de Rouw and senior Andrew Long fell 8-4 at No. 3.

In singles play, Greenwell defeated DeWitt, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3 before Abos Amo lost 7-6 (5), 7-6 (2) to McAuley at No. 2. Wabash's Nicholas Pollock clinched the win with a three-set win at No. 5 over de Rouw (6-4, 2-6, 6-3). At No. 4, Devereux came back with a 7-5 second-set win but could not hold on in the third, losing 6-1, while Bera held a 5-4 third-set lead before retiring.

Wooster concludes the regular season tomorrow against the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (13-9, 6-0 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) at Fairborn, Ohio at 11 a.m.
