The College of Wooster's swimming and diving team got the 2014-15 season started at the annual Kenyon Relays, and both the Fighting Scot men and women took third-place among an eight-team field, including seven North Coast Athletic Conference programs, on Saturday at Gambier, Ohio.

Only national powers Kenyon University and Denison University finished above the Scots in the season-opening meet. Wooster's men scored 52 points, which was two points ahead of fourth-place Ohio Northern University (50), while the women had 46 points, edging out Oberlin College (42 points) and Wittenberg University (42 points).

The best result for Wooster came when the men and women joined forces in the mixed 200-yard medley, as Brian Maddock and Evan Hagedorn teamed with Courtney McGovern and Morgan Hughes to touch third in 1:43.51.

On the men's side, Wooster had a pair of sixth-place finishes in the 200 backstroke (1:39.84) and 200 breaststroke (1:54.03), with both relay groups consisting of Maddock, Frayne Poeting, Jacob Earle, and Hagedorn. The men also nabbed seventh-place in the 200 medley in 1:38.37, again with Maddock and Poeting, along with James Love and Aaron Brown.

Over in women's competition, the highlight came in the 200 freestyle, as McGovern and Hughes partnered with Jillian Saccogna and Jamie Hibbs for fourth-place honors in 1:50.28. Also noteworthy, McGovern and Hughes again stood out, this time with teammates Colleen Kill and Saccogna, to take fifth in the 200 butterfly (1:41.08).

Wooster will battle its rival Wittenberg University next Saturday in a traditional dual meet at Timken Natatorium.
