AKRON, Ohio – The College of Wooster's Dylan Garretson opened his senior season at the University of Akron's Haynes Lancaster Open, where he cleared 15 feet, 7 inches in the pole vault on Friday evening.
The program's first men's indoor All-American entered the competition once the crossbar was elevated to 15 feet, 1 inch, and cleared that progression on the second try. Garretson soared over the crossbar once it was lifted to 15 feet, 7 inches, then bowed out of the competition at 16 feet, 0.75 inch.
Garretson's brother, Hunter, won the competition, clearing 17 feet, 0.75 inch, while Davis Patterson, a Wooster alumnus competing at Akron as a graduate transfer, cleared 15 feet, 1 inch.
Wooster's full indoor season starts on Saturday, January 13 when the Fighting Scots host the Wooster Invitational at noon.
