Hargrave, Sanford Break Records at Bob Shannon

Evie Sanford, Wooster Track & Field GRANVILLE, Ohio – Junior Daysia Hargrave bettered an already-held school record and moved into the top-20 nationally in the hurdles, while sophomore Evie Sanford broke a 28-year-old school record at Saturday's Denison University Bob Shannon Invitational.

Hargrave's 9.02 was the program record in the 60-meter hurdles at the start of the day, and that was lowered to 9.00 in prelims. Hargrave's prelim time was good for a spot in the top-20 nationally, and the junior went 8.95 in the finals for meet runner-up status. As of posting time, Hargrave's 8.95 is the 17th-fastest time in Div. III this season.

Sanford crushed Dee Dee Reid's 40 feet, 6.25 inches in the shot put, which stood as the program's record since 1996. The sophomore measured out to 42 feet, 4.75 inches en route to winning the event on Saturday. Sanford is now within the top-35 nationally in the event.

Senior Drew Patterson's season-best clearance of 5 feet, 3 inches in the high jump scored the Fighting Scots a second first-place finish at the 10-team meet. Sophomore Sarah Hiestand upped the pole vault career-best to 10 feet, which was the runner-up mark.

Senior Athena Tharenos was a double runner-up with times of 2:23.96 and 5:14.90 in the 800 meters and mile, respectively. Elsewhere, junior Maia Doescher, first-year Claire Davis, Patterson, and sophomore Izzy Cozzie raced to the third-place time of 1:50.77 in the 4x200 relay. Cozzie, junior Emily Munson, junior Igna Mendez, and Tharenos capped the meet with the fifth-place time of 4:20.39 in the 4x400 relay. Hargrave rounded out the top-five placers with a mark of 4 feet, 9 inches in the high jump.

First-year King Jeju's triple jump of 44 feet, 4.75 inches was the second-longest on the day, and Wooster had two top-four placers in the event, with junior Vell Robinson's 40 feet, 4.75 inches scoring a fourth-place finish. Robinson had two top-four showings on the day. Robinson's 11 feet, 11.75 inches in the pole vault tied a career-high and went in the meet ledger as the third-place height.

Junior Liam Regan, junior Cam Ray, first-year Cooper Norwell, and Jeju teamed up for the third-place time of 1:33.49 in the 4x200 relay. Junior Echo Kidd was a point producer, thanks to third-place marks of 20 feet, 11.75 inches in the long jump and 6 feet, 0.75 inch in the high jump.

Senior Luke Henke's 6 feet, 0.75 inch was the fourth-place height in the high jump. Senior Joe Shilts, Ray, sophomore Zane DeMercurio, and Regan went 3:43.25 to place fifth in the 4x400 relay.

Albion College was first of nine scoring teams on the men's side with 142 points. Wooster took fourth with 60 points. On the women's side, NCAA Div. I Robert Morris University led the pack with 197 points. Wooster took third at 67.5 points.

Next, Wooster is off to Otterbein University for the All-Ohio Championships on Saturday, Feb. 10.
