Gary Welshhans

  • Title:
    Volunteer Asst. Coach

Former All-American, and 1988 W Association Hall of Fame inductee, Gary Welshhans is in his ninth year as a volunteer assistant with The College of Wooster women's golf program.

Welshhans, the College’s first All-American in golf, helped kick-start one of the most consistent eras in collegiate golf. As a first-year in 1970, Welshhans was part of the College’s first-ever NCAA Tournament team. Over the next 23 years, the team would make the championship field 20 more times.

The then-senior carded a 307 in 1973 at the National Championship to earn honorable mention All-American accolades. Earlier in the season, he earned medalist honors at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship.

Welshhans, who was the head professional at the Wooster Country Club prior to his retirement, is married to Diane, a 1973 alumna of the College. The couple has four grown children.
