Scots Sweep Big Red in Dual Meet

Senior David Westcott won the men's 5,000 meters (16:50.6) thanks to a strong closing stretch.

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster cross country teams had the top two finishers in each race, and the Fighting Scots' depth took over from there, enabling the Black and Gold to dominate North Coast Athletic Conference rival Denison University in an old-school dual meet on Thursday evening at L.C. Boles Memorial Golf Course.

Wooster's women led off the evening with a 20-38 win over Denison. First-year Isabelle Hoover broke the tape with a 5,000 meters time of 20:42.5, and senior Emani Kelley wasn't that far off Hoover's winning pace with a 20:51.0. In fact, Wooster went one-two-three on the women's side with first-year Kayla Bertholf being Denison's Emily Willson to the line at 20:55.2.

First-year Amirah Yessoufou delivered a strong sixth-place finish at 21:22.7, while junior Audrey Cordova (21:54.0) and senior Collier Summay (22:06.3) rounded out the Scots in the top-10.

In the men's race, Wooster topped Denison 23-33. Senior David Westcott edged out teammate Jackson Feinknopf for first-place thanks to a strong closing stretch that had Westcott breaking the tape at 16:50.6. Feinknopf crossed next at 16:53.5, while junior Miki Rae's 5K time of 17:10.9 was good for a fifth-place showing.

Seniors Brian Lief (17:24.3) and Simon Weyer (17:25.2) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, while sophomores Matt Klonowski (18:15.4) and Jackson Todd (18:38.6) both placed in the top 12.

Noteworthy, Wooster's wins marked the first time an institution has won both races in the now three-year history of the dual meet between conference rivals.

Wooster is back in action at the All-Ohio Championships at Akron, Ohio on Saturday, Sept. 29
