Wooster Leads NCAC with Another Record Number on NCAC Academic Honor Roll
184 Fighting Scots honored by conference office
NCAC Academic Honor Roll Release
The College of Wooster's 184 North Coast Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll qualifiers led the conference and marked the Fighting Scots' sixth straight year upping its record total. Wooster's 184 honorees are 20 more than last year's total and 29 more than the number of Scots honored for academic achievement during the 2021-22 academic year
To be honored, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore on an active roster in a sport sponsored by the NCAC and hold a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher. Nearly 1,300 (1,286) Scots have been recognized in the 11 years of the NCAC Academic Honor Roll program.
Wooster's contingent is comprised of 69 seniors, 54 juniors, and 61 sophomores. Thirteen of Wooster's 23 varsity sports – every sport with at least 20 team members – had at least 10 qualifiers this year. Men's indoor and outdoor track and field led the way with 20 honorees, followed by men's lacrosse and women's soccer with 17 each. Men's cross country, men's swimming and diving, and women's swimming and diving had 15 Scots recognized from their respective programs, while women's indoor and outdoor track and field had 14. Men's soccer (13), women's lacrosse (12), baseball (10), and football (10) rounded out the programs with double-digit honorees. Additionally, five of Wooster's 10 programs with under 20 team members had at least 60 percent of eligible Scots named to the NCAC Academic Honor Roll. Those programs were women's cross country, field hockey, men's golf, women's golf, and women's tennis.
On an individual level, football alumnus Lake Barrett headlines Wooster's 2023-24 academic achievements as a $10,000 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient. Wooster now has 29 all-time NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipients, with 15 of them coming since the start of the 2017-18 academic year. Barrett was voted to the College Sports Communicators' (CSC) Academic All-America® team for the third time this fall. Baseball, cross country and track and field, and at-large (field hockey, golf, lacrosse) Academic All-America® teams are slated to be announced in the coming weeks and several graduates have applied for consideration for the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship from spring sports, with those slated to be announced later this summer.
A total of 1,259 student-athletes were named to the 2023-24 NCAC Academic Honor Roll. View Wooster's full list of honorees here.
