In conjunction with the finals of the NCAA Div. III Baseball Championship, held at Grand Chute, Wis., the American Baseball Coaches Association and D3baseball.com All-America Teams were announced, with runner-up College of Wooster being well represented as four players received the national recognition.

Dan Leslie of the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) stroked a one-out single through the left side and teammate Matt Olson easily beat the throw home, giving the Tommies a 3-2, 12-inning victory in the national championship game to close the NCAA Div. III Baseball Championship.

The College of Wooster batted around the order each of the first two innings and Matthew Pierce highlighted a three-run third with a blast over the left-field fence, as the Fighting Scots built an early 10-2 lead and went on to a 11-7 victory over Chapman University in a Memorial Day match-up during the NCAA Div. III Baseball Championship finals.

Behind a career-best performance from pitcher Matt DeGrand, The College of Wooster shut down the University of St. Thomas 3-0 to continue its perfect run through the finals of the NCAA Div. III Baseball Championship.

The College of Wooster scored runs during eight of the nine innings, and Mark Miller pitched seven scoreless, as the Fighting Scots steadily pulled away to a 14-1 victory over Kean University in a winners’ bracket game at the NCAA Div. III Baseball Championship.

The College of Wooster, NCAA Div. III Mideast Regional Tournament champions, had four of its players named to the 2009 American Baseball Coaches Association All-Mideast Region Team, highlighted by sophomore Justin McDowell, who was the Pitcher of the Year.

A wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth allowed pinch runner Chris Wood to come home, lifting The College of Wooster to a 4-3 victory in a back-and-forth championship game with rival Marietta College to close the NCAA Div. III Mideast Regional Tournament.

Behind a complete-game pitching performance from Justin McDowell and another early scoring outburst, The College of Wooster advanced to the championship of the NCAA Div. III Mideast Regional Tournament with an 8-2 defeat of the host school, Adrian College.

With some help from The College of Wooster’s defense, Marietta College scored three runs in both the third and fourth innings, and the Fighting Scots left a series of runners on base later, which were the two key factors in a 6-2 setback to the rival Pioneers.

The College of Wooster struck for three runs in the first inning, five in the fourth, and two in the fifth, jumping out to a 10-1 lead, as the Fighting Scots rolled past Marietta College 13-3 during an NCAA Div. III Mideast Regional Tournament match-up.

Justin McDowell continued his exceptional postseason on the mound as he gave up just five hits during a near-complete game performance, leading The College of Wooster to a 5-1 win over Concordia University Chicago in the squads’ opening game of the NCAA Div. III Mideast Regional Tournament.

The College of Wooster’s Sean Karpen and Mark Miller landed the top baseball honors from the North Coast Athletic Conference, as Karpen repeated as the Player of the Year and Miller was named the Pitcher of the Year

The College of Wooster scored seven runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a commanding 8-1 lead and then held off a rally by Kenyon College, eventually prevailing 10-6 Saturday afternoon for a sweep in the North Coast Athletic Conference championship series.

A five-run outburst during the bottom of the seventh inning lifted The College of Wooster to a 7-5 victory over Kenyon College in game one of the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship Series.

Justin McDowell kept Wabash College’s bats quiet for the second day in a row and Zack Vesco came up with the key hit, lining a two-out, two-run single to centerfield in the bottom of the seventh to give The College of Wooster a 5-4 lead and it went on to a 6-4 win in the deciding game of a North Coast Athletic Conference semifinal series.
