Following a pair of shutout victories on Saturday afternoon in the first two of the teams' four-game North Coast Athletic Conference East Division series, The College of Wooster's offense took center stage at Oberlin College Sunday as the Fighting Scots combined for 29 runs in 18-4 and 11-4 wins to complete the weekend sweep.

Wooster (25-7, 9-3 NCAC East) set the tone early on Sunday with eight runs over the first two innings of the opener. The very first at bat resulted in a Matthew Johnson triple – the first of two on the day for the Scots' leadoff hitter – and he trotted home on a base knock by Michael Wellstead. With one out, Matt Groezinger provided an RBI double and the clean-up batter would eventually make it 3-0 when he scored on a groundout.

Luke Sutton began the second inning with a home run, and later, Groezinger came through with another key hit, this time bringing two home on a single and knocking out the starter from Oberlin (17-14, 7-5 NCAC East). Wooster would score one more before the frame was up in taking an 8-0 cushion.

The Yeomen managed an unearned tally in the bottom of the second, only to see the Scots pull away further with one run in the third, three in the fourth, and one in the fifth, which added up to a 13-1 lead. The offensive highlights of that stretch included another Wellstead RBI single in the third, and leadoff doubles by Greg Van Horn and Johnson in the fourth and fifth, respectively.

That was more than enough of a cushion for Wooster starting pitcher Matt DeGrand, who went the first five innings. He only allowed one earned run on six hits and struck out a pair to improve to 4-1.

The nightcap saw the Scots put up eight runs over the first two innings again, highlighted by Johnson's second consecutive leadoff triple and a grand slam down the left-field line for Van Horn which made it 5-0 before an out had been recorded.

Oberlin came back with a two-spot in the bottom of the first and got the first two hitters out in the second, however, Wooster still managed a three-run inning, keyed by RBI singles from Groezinger and Zack Vesco, upping the margin to 8-2.

The home team crept back into it, cutting the lead to 8-4. Then, Sutton led off the sixth with a double and eventually scored as part of a two-out, two-run single by Vesco to all but seal the victory.

Tyler Fugate was on the mound for the Scots, picking up the win (5-1) as he worked 6.1 innings and yielded three earned runs on six hits. The junior right-hander set down seven on strikes.

Wooster had many offensive standouts, paced by Johnson's and Sutton's five hit-days. Johnson combined to 5-for-9 with five runs, a double, the two triples, and two stolen bases, while Sutton was 5-for-6 with four runs scored, a two-bagger, the home run, and two RBI.

The Scots' next game will be held at the Cleveland Indians' Progressive Field, where on Wednesday, they'll play Case Western Reserve University (22-16). Opening pitch is set for noon.
