The College of Wooster baseball team, just past the midway point of its annual season-opening swing in Florida, notched its best win to date in Port Charlotte on Sunday, as the Fighting Scots shutout No. 3 Wheaton (Mass.) College 3-0, thanks to the pitching of Kyle Koski and Jon Rothman. Overall, Wooster is 4-3 entering the last five games of the trip, which will be played at Fort Myers.

On Sunday, Koski threw seven strong innings, striking out eight and yielding just six singles and one walk to the nationally-ranked Lyons, and then Rothman set them down in order during the eighth and ninth, marking the converted catcher's first career save.

Offensively against Wheaton (Mass.), Eddie Reese set the pace with a three-double, 4-for-4 outing, tying a school record for doubles in a game last accomplished by Matt Groezinger versus Defiance College during the 2009 spring break trip, while Ryan Miner went 3-for-4 while scoring one of the three runs and driving in another.

The day prior, the Scots received a complete-game effort from Keenan White, who defeated Wheaton (Ill.) College by an 8-2 count. The southpaw nearly had a shutout, only giving up a two-out, two-run single during the bottom of the ninth. White established a new career-high with 12 strikeouts and did not walk a batter.

That was the second quality start for White, who helped key a 13-8 win versus regional opponent College of Mount St. Joseph earlier in the week. He gave up just two runs in six innings, all of which adds up to a 2-0 record, 2.40 ERA, and 19 strikeouts through 15.0 innings.

At the plate, Wooster has received a variety of contributions. Atop the batting average chart is Craig Day as the third baseman is hitting .391 (9-for-23) with two doubles. Leadoff man Jarrod Mancine and Reese are at an identical .379 (11-for-29), with seven of Reese's hits having been two-baggers.

Miner's recent surge has him batting .353 (6-for-17) plus the speedy outfielder is a perfect 3-for-3 on stolen bases. Zac Mathie has a team-high 11 RBI to go with a .345 average (10-for-29), which includes two doubles and two triples, and also of note, John McLain is at a .320 clip (8-for-25) with a squad-leading five steals.

The next stretch of games features two against an 8-2 Johns Hopkins University team.
