The College of Wooster scored in five innings, steadily pulling away from Baldwin Wallace University to a 9-3 triumph during the northeast Ohio foes' annual non-conference baseball clash Tuesday afternoon in Berea, Ohio.

Wooster (15-7) jumped out to a 3-0 lead through one and one-half innings. Jarrod Mancine opened the game with a single, took second on a walk, and then scored when Eddie Reese singled through the left side.

Johnathan Ray started the second with a double and a one-out bunt single from Bryan Miller plated him. Miller proceeded to steal second base and Mancine followed with an RBI base knock into left-center for the three-run cushion.

Baldwin Wallace (16-5) put single tallies on the board during the home half of the second and third innings to make it a 3-2 game.

The Fighting Scots' bats got going again in the fourth, which began with a Miller double and a Mancine walk. Two more walks followed, with Reese's bringing Miller home. John McLain added a sacrifice fly as Wooster went back up by three (5-2).

The Yellow Jackets attempted to mount a comeback again, as they strung together three consecutive hits, recording one run in the process, during the fifth inning with no outs. However, Jon Rothman struck out two of the next three batters, sandwiched around a foul out, to avoid further trouble.

The Scots got the run back in the sixth. They loaded the bases on a hit by pitch and two walks, then McLain delivered his second sacrifice fly of the day for a third three-run advantage (6-3).

Wooster put the game away via a three-run ninth inning, featuring Miller and Mancine RBI singles.

Mancine and Miller were the offensive catalysts throughout the game, each going 3-for-4 with two RBI. The Scots drew nine walks, including three for Reese. Also of note, Shane Gallagher reached base safely three times via two walks and a hit by pitch.

Next, Wooster hosts a North Coast Athletic Conference East Division series this weekend against Hiram College (9-12, 0-6 NCAC East) with a pair of doubleheaders, starting at noon Saturday and Sunday.
