CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – Zac Mathie delivered a bases-loaded, one-out single to break a 2-2 tie and kick-start an eight-run sixth inning for The College of Wooster, and the Fighting Scots went on to defeat Allegheny College 18-6 on Friday afternoon at V.A. Memorial Stadium for their second consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference championship and 15th all-time.

With the win, Wooster (32-10) takes the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Div. III Championship field, which begins May 15.

The two teams were deadlocked at two in the sixth, when with one out, the Scots' Jarrod Mancine took a hit by pitch, the first of 10 consecutive batters to reach base. John McLain followed by doubling high off the wall in left field to place runners on second and third. Allegheny (26-16) intentionally walked Eddie Reese, then lifted starter Kyle Davis, who tossed 100-plus pitches, a strong effort considering he threw a complete-game 5-3 win versus Denison University the previous day.

Mathie stepped in and fouled off a couple two-strike pitches before driving a 2-2 offering into right, which plated Mancine and McLain easily as Wooster took a lead (4-2) that it would not relinquish.

That's because the Scots' offense was just getting started. A four-pitch walk to Cal Thomay followed and Frank Vance sent a two-run double into the corner in right field to push the margin to 6-2. Next, Craig Day hit a sinking liner into center for two more runs, Ryan Miner reached via an error, and Bryan Miller shot a double that reached the wall in left as two more touched home, and all of the sudden it was a 10-2 game.

Keenan White picked up the win, his first of the year in a relief role as the senior southpaw went just 1.1 innings, yielding a run on two hits. Along with his 11 victories in as many starts, White is now a Div.-III leading 12-0 on the season.

Mancine landed tournament MVP honors, posting a .733 on-base percentage as the team's leadoff hitter. He was 6-for-10 with four walks plus the hit by pitch.

Joining him on the all-tournament team were Mathie (.357, two doubles, seven RBI), Thomay (.455, one double, three RBI), Vance (.583, two doubles, six RBI), and White (2-0 in two appearances).

The NCAA will announce the field for its 2013 tournament on ncaa.com Monday at 10 a.m.
