The College of Wooster held off a late rally by Hiram College for an 8-5 win in game one, then broke out the bats for seven extra-base hits and an 18-1 victory during the nightcap, as the Fighting Scots swept Sunday afternoon's games, which were played at Eastwood Field in Niles, Ohio, to take the teams' North Coast Athletic Conference East Division series three games to one.

In the opener, almost all of the offense took place during the seventh and final inning. Knotted 2-2, Wooster (16-9, 7-1 NCAC East) exploded for six runs, starting with a Jamie Lackner leadoff double and a John McLain one-out RBI single. Following an error, Bryan Miller successfully laid down a bunt to the first base side that not only brought in a run, but was good enough for a single. A wild pitch, walk, another wild pitch, and a groundout resulted in two more tallies as the Scots gained a 6-2 advantage.

Wooster did not stop there, as Eddie Reese, Brendan Taylor, and Joey Gilmore each singled, with Reese's and Gilmore's pushing the lead to six, and they turned out to be valuable insurance runs.

Hiram (7-15, 4-8 NCAC) did not go down quietly in its last at bat. The Terriers scored three runs on four hits, including doubles by Shane Haidet and Josh Morales, and a walk, all with just one out recorded. With the bases loaded, and thus the winning run at the plate, Jon Rothman finally finished off Hiram with a strikeout and foul out.

Steve Hagen was the winning pitcher (3-4). He went the first six innings and two batters into the seventh, giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out six.

Sunday played out similarly to Saturday's doubleheader, a close first game followed by the Scots jumping all over the Terriers early in game two on their way to a blowout win.

McLain highlighted a five-run first inning with a two-run shot to left as he homered for the second consecutive day.

After Hiram got the first two outs of the third, six-straight Wooster hitters reached base successfully as part of a four-run frame, with the big blow being a Zac Mathie two-run blast.

Already leading 9-1 through three, the Scots continued to pour it on via a seven-run fourth inning. Miller, Jarrod Mancine, and Lackner each contributed RBI doubles and McLain a run-scoring triple as Wooster was well on its way to the decisive victory.

On the mound, Zach Woullard notched the first win (1-0) of his career, as the sophomore did not allow an earned run, one unearned on just three hits, and struck out five over six innings.

The Scots next action will be a Friday-Saturday NCAC divisional series at Oberlin College (13-11, 6-6 NCAC East) on April 18-19.
