First-year Tyler Schuch pitched a scoreless second inning before falling victim to a couple bloop hits in the third.

WOOSTER, Ohio – Ten of The College of Wooster's 22 hits went for extra bases – eight doubles and two home runs – and it scored in six of eight innings, as the Fighting Scots' offense paved the way for a 16-8 win against non-league foe Ohio Northern University Tuesday afternoon at Art Murray Field.

Through two and one-half innings, Wooster (24-12) found itself down 6-1, but quickly tied the score with five runs in the bottom of the third. A pair of walks sandwiched an Eddie Reese double, as the Scots loaded the bases without an out recorded, then Brendan Taylor doubled inside the left-field line for two runs. A sharp liner off the bat of Billy Farrow was good for a sacrifice fly, and Craig Day and Jarrod Mancine added two-out RBI singles.

Both offenses continued to pile up runs in the fourth inning, two for Ohio Northern (23-12) as it retook the lead only to see Wooster cross home plate four times during the home half of the frame. Reese opened it with a single to left, stole second base, and Taylor sent a one-out single up the middle to bring the Scots within 8-7. Farrow followed with a single into left and Cal Thomay drove a two-run double into left-center, which ended up giving Wooster the lead for good. Day singled Thomay in to make it 10-8.

While the Scots received some strong middle relief from pitcher Michael Houdek, they continued to pound away at the plate, breaking the game open with three runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, and two in the seventh. The fifth inning featured back-to-back doubles by Reese and Zac Mathie and a Taylor two-run homer smashed well beyond the fence in left, and in the seventh, Thomay had an equally impressive drive over the left-field wall. It marked the first home runs of the season for both Taylor and Thomay.

Houdek entered during a jam in the fourth and was effective at limiting further damage, then the freshman southpaw worked 1-2-3 innings in both the fifth and sixth to earn his first career win (1-0). Overall, he gave up just one hit and struck out three without a walk.

Offensively, Wooster was paced by four-hit days from Mancine (4-for-6) and Day (4-for-5), while Taylor registered five RBI and Thomay four. Mancine raised his season batting average to .442.

The Scots will be right back in action on Wednesday at No. 8 ranked Heidelberg University (30-7).
