With Frank Vance leading the way, as the senior third baseman hit for the cycle, The College of Wooster opened up a 9-2 lead through four innings and went on to a 14-10 win over Wabash College Sunday afternoon, thus taking two-of-three in the high-scoring series that played out at V.A. Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio, over the weekend.

It is the second season in a row a Wooster player has hit for the cycle, with Eddie Reese achieving the feat last March, but prior to that, it hadn't happened for 13 years.

After rallying for an 11-10 victory in game two on Saturday, Wabash (11-15) began Sunday's affair with two runs in the top of the first, then Wooster (20-4) quickly took charge.

The Fighting Scots tied it during the second inning, as Vance sent an RBI triple down the right-field line and Jacob Solomon singled him home.

The bottom of the third started with a Kenny Reckart double and he eventually scored on a passed ball, and later, Jamie Lackner belted his third home run in as many games, this one a three-run shot that gave Wooster a 6-2 advantage. Lackner now has 12 homers on the season, including seven in his last eight games.

The Scots extended their lead to seven in the fourth, with Ian Vernier hitting a two-run homer to left-center and John McLain adding an RBI double.

The two teams exchanged single tallies during the fifth, Wooster's coming on a solo blast by Vance, and with middle reliever Hank Schlueter dialed in on the mound, the Scots effectively put the game away via a three-run sixth inning. Lackner walked, Vance singled, and Solomon delivered a triple, and two hitters later, Vernier's RBI single to right-center pushed the score to 13-3.

Schlueter (4-0) allowed just one hit while keeping the Little Giants off the scoreboard during the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.

Wabash did rally for four runs in the eighth and three in the ninth, but the tying run never even reached the on-deck circle.

Vance completed the cycle with a seventh-inning double, as he went 4-for-5 with two RBI on the day.

Chris Fafalios was also a significant factor at the plate for Wooster, going 3-for-4, while Wabash's Tyler Owensby had a three-hit afternoon as well (3-for-5).

The Scots will be at Case Western Reserve University (14-9) on Wednesday afternoon.
