Sophomore Michael Houdek is developing into a strong starting pitcher for The College of Wooster baseball team, as he notched his first-career shutout last week to earn North Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher-of-the-Week honors, the league office announced late Monday.

Houdek appeared in just six innings of relief work as a freshman last spring, but he earned a spot in the rotation this offseason and has run with the opportunity. He leads the red-hot Fighting Scots (24-5, 10-2 NCAC East) in wins (5), strikeouts (32), and innings pitched (39.2), to go along with a 2.95 ERA.

The 6-5 southpaw put it all together against Hiram College on April 18, as he scattered just five hits (all singles) and fanned four over seven shutout innings as part of Wooster's decisive 11-0 victory.

The Scots will be in non-conference action Tuesday when they travel to John Carroll University (21-9) for a 4 p.m. start.
