WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster scored the last seven runs to win Saturday's second game, 13-6, completing a sweep of North Coast Athletic Conference East Division opponent Oberlin College, as the Fighting Scots used a solid pitching performance to take the opener 9-1 at Art Murray Field.

In the nightcap, Wooster (28-5, 12-2 NCAC East) quickly made amends for an uncharacteristic defensive half of the fourth inning when Oberlin (13-22, 4-10 NCAC East) tied the score 6-6 on three unearned runs. The offense responded, as Jake Fling began the bottom of the frame with a double down the right-field line and Drew Tornow followed with a single through the right side to give the Scots back the lead. Tornow later scored on a John McLain infield single to make it 8-6.

The Yeomen were poised to answer back in the fifth until reliever Hank Schlueter entered in a tough spot – runners on second and third with no outs and a 2-0 count to the hitter – and kept them off the scoreboard via back-to-back strikeouts and a fly out to right.

Schlueter stayed in the rest of the way, throwing 5.0 scoreless innings in all as he improved to 5-0. The junior southpaw scattered three singles and a walk while striking out four.

Wooster gave him some insurance, tallying two runs in the sixth on a Ryan Ostendorf double, one in the seventh when Frank Vance doubled in Fling, and two in the eighth, including another Ostendorf RBI.

The Scots had led game two 6-0 through two innings, as Oberlin's right fielder was unable to track down a McLain drive that resulted in two runs during the first and Kenny Reckart, Tornow, and Vance all contributed RBI singles in the second.

The first game was highlighted by five shutout innings from Michael Houdek. Wooster's ace tossed a five-hit shutout last Saturday and was almost as impressive this time, overcoming six singles and two walks to keep the Yeomen off the scoreboard. Schlueter followed Houdek, who improved to 6-0, with his first scoreless frame of the day.

Offensively, the Scots broke open the game with a six-run fourth inning. Ahead 2-0, Wooster loaded the bases without recording an out, then Tyler Schuch delivered a double just inside the left-field line to plate two and an error during the play allowed another to score. After Jamie Lackner drew a walk, McLain hammered a three-run homer to left for an 8-0 cushion.

McLain led all players as he combined for five hits (5-for-8) and drove in seven runs during the doubleheader, while producing four-hit days were Fling (4-for-7) and Vance (4-for-10).

The two teams will play another twinbill on Sunday, with opening pitch set for noon.
