In a battle of D3baseball.com top-20 opponents, seventh-ranked College of Wooster was tripped up by No. 20 Ohio Northern University, as three Polar Bear pitchers combined to hold the Fighting Scots' high-scoring offense to just one run on six hits in a 3-1 decision Tuesday afternoon at Wander Field in Ada, Ohio.

Wooster (30-6), which saw its 10-game winning streak come to an end, had been averaging 10.6 runs, and scratched out two hits each of the first two innings. During the top of the second, Jacob Solomon singled, and with two outs, Kenny Reckart went the opposite way with an RBI double down the left-field line.

Ohio Northern (29-8) came right back with a tying run in the bottom of the frame, taking advantage of a Scot error.

While the Polar Bears produced single tallies in the fourth on a Jordan Bostater RBI single and sixth when Dan Belliveau led off with a triple, Wooster recorded just two more hits the rest of the game.

The Scots did miss out on some scoring chances. They loaded the bases without the benefit of a hit during the sixth, as Jamie Lackner took a hit by pitch, John McLain drew a walk, and Kevin Hagen also walked to load the bases with two outs, however, Ohio Northern reliever Ben Glischinski escaped the jam with a strikeout.

A Solomon double gave Wooster runners on second and third with two outs in the eighth, but again, Glischinski came up with an inning-ending strikeout.

On the mound, Michael Houdek took the tough-luck loss – his first of the season (6-1). The Scots' ace allowed one earned run and one unearned over four innings.

Offensively, Solomon was the lone Wooster player with a multi-hit day, as he went 2-for-4.

The Scots return to action on Wednesday with another challenging road game, as they'll take on No. 10 Baldwin Wallace University (27-8).
