Wielansky Named to D3baseball.com's Team of the Week

Michael Wielansky

Freshman Michael Wielansky from The College of Wooster baseball team earned a spot on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, as announced by the popular website on Tuesday morning.

Wielansky, who was also tabbed as the North Coast Athletic Conference's Player of the Week, had a monster week at the plate in helping the Fighting Scots to a 6-1 record, with all six of the wins coming in NCAC East Division play, enabling Wooster to clinch the division.

The shortstop hit .429 (12-for-28) while recording an extra-base hit in six of the seven games. He slugged an even 1.000 for the week with three doubles, two triples, and three home runs. The freshman headlined his stellar week at the plate with a grand slam during Wooster's 14-2 win over Oberlin College on Saturday, and finished a double shy of the cycle in a mid-week non-conference tilt against John Carroll University.

Wielansky also tallied 13 RBI and eight runs scored on the week.

Wielansky is the second Wooster player to earn D3baseball.com's weekly accolade, and first since Kyle Cunningham-Rhoads on April 17, 2012.

The Scots (26-9) return to action with a 4 p.m. non-conference tilt against Otterbein University (25-7) this afternoon.
