Senior Salute: Steve Spidell

Throughout the spring and summer, we'll be honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Steve Spidell, a communication studies major from Mt. Eaton, Ohio. Spidell is a member of the baseball team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: The great academics and a great campus.

Q: What does it mean to you to be a Fighting Scot student-athlete?
A: I am proud to be a part of a winning tradition and the great friendships I've built along the way.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Standing in the right center gap during batting practice with the other pitchers.

Q: What's the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part is being able to contribute to a long tradition of excellence.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I worked with the athletic communication department on "the greatest stat crew on this side of the Mississippi."

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. Denise Bostdorff helped me understand that college, as well as athletics, don't last forever. Without her, I most likely would not have made it to my senior year, and I can't thank her enough for her guidance.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people/resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Kevin Smith, the director of athletic communication. No one works harder and does more for their department.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am conducting a content analysis on the media coverage during the 2017 Houston Astros cheating scandal.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I recently finished my remote APEX Fellowship as a trainee consultant with Connected Performance learning and understanding a smarter side of pitching.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what is one piece of advice you would give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: Go to class.
