CoSIDA Baseball Academic All-District Release

Tyler Chumita, The College of Wooster's latest All-American, was voted to the College Sports Information Directors of America's (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® Team, which was announced by the organization on Thursday afternoon. Chumita advances to the ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America® consideration.

Chumita, a third-team American Baseball Coaches Association All-American, was one of the toughest outs in NCAA Div. III this spring. He hit .465 (59-for-127) in 38 games and sported a .560 on-base percentage, with those marks ranking as the fifth- and third-best in single-season program history, respectively. Chumita sported the 10th-highest on-base percentage in Div. III this spring and ranked in the top-15 nationally in average and hit-by-pitches (17). He was a first-team ABCA All-Mideast Region, a second-team D3baseball.com All-Mideast Region, and All-North Coast Athletic Conference East Division honoree. The smooth-swinger led the NCAC in average and on-base percentage and ranked in the top-three in hits, runs (42), and doubles (17).

Chumita stepped up in the big games, hitting .500 (23-for-46) with 18 RBI, 11 runs, seven doubles, a homer, and a .537 on-base percentage in 11 clashes against regionally-ranked opponents. He was the NCAC Athlete of the Week on May 17 after going 7-for-17 with nine RBI, three runs, two doubles, a walk, and a stolen base in a four-game set at Case Western Reserve University. Chumita had the team's longest streak of reaching base safely this season at 32 games, and he led the Fighting Scots with 20 multi-hit games.

Off the field, the education and mathematics major is involved with Athletes InterVarsity, he volunteers with the kids program at Cypress Wesleyan Church, he's volunteered with the "General's Club" at nearby Cornerstone Elementary School, and he's volunteered for Night to Shine prom events for those with special needs in Wooster.

Of note, Chumita's the only NCAC baseball player on this year's Academic All-District® Team and he's Wooster's sixth selection in the last five seasons.
