Senior Salute - Riley McErlean
BCMB major is a member of baseball team
Throughout the spring semester, we are honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Riley McErlean, a biochemistry and molecular biology major from Toronto, Canada. McErlean is a member of the baseball team.
Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose to attend The College of Wooster to play high level baseball and get a great education.
Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: Being a Fighting Scot means being a competitor as well as proper member of my community.
Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite memory is when our team won the Alton Regional in 2022.
Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: Having a team to support me both academically and athletically.
Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am involved with the Wooster Community Hospital Health Coach Program. I work several on-campus jobs and had an APEX Fellowship at ALPHA Health Services.
Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Coach Barry Craddock and Coach Matthew Johnsonhave definitely had the greatest impact on me during my time here.
Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: APEX(Wooster's center for Advising, Planning, and Experiential Learning) provided me with the skills I need to be successful after graduation.
Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am researching metabolic biomarkers in Amish populations with propionic acidemia.
Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I completed an APEX Fellowship at ALPHA Health Services and went to the NCAA Div. III Super Regional with my team my junior year.
Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: Take more pictures. The memories are fun to look back on.
