Wooster earns ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award
The College of Wooster baseball team earned the American Baseball Coaches Association's (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, which was recently announced by the organization. This is Wooster's fifth time qualifying in the eight-year history of the award.
Wooster's academic excellence saw senior Dean Brown, senior Christian Johnston, junior Corey Knauf, senior Ryan Sullivan, and junior Eli Westrick named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Team. Baseball was one of 12 of Wooster's 23 varsity sports to have at least 50 percent of eligible team members qualify for the North Coast Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll earlier this summer. Thirteen individuals were among the qualifiers for that list.
Wooster's 2023 season saw Westrick voted to D3baseball.com's All-America Team, Westrick named to the inaugural ABCA Region All-Defensive Team, and the Scots post an 11-5 record in conference play.
The ABCA recognized nearly 450 collegiate programs from across the country. Teams were honored with this year's award, which highlights programs coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for the entire 2022-23 academic year.
