Four Named All-NCAC in Baseball
Three of Wooster's selections are first-team honorees
The College of Wooster's Alex Gerdenich, Ryan Kramer, and Eli Westrick earned first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors, while junior Nick Pett joined the all-conference trio as a second-team selection.
Gerdenich, a junior, earned the first-team utility spot after splitting time as the team's top relief pitcher and a starting outfielder. On the mound, Gerdenich went 1-4 with a team-leading four saves. He pitched 25 1/3 innings over 14 appearances and struck out 23 batters. Offensively, Gerdenich hit .222 (16-for-72), scored 12 runs, and sported a .345 on-base percentage, thanks to 14 walks. He collected saves on consecutive days during the team's spring break trip to Florida and nailed down save four with a scoreless inning against NCAC co-champion Wittenberg University in early April. Gerdenich started that game in the outfield and was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two walks, and a RBI.
Kramer turned in a career year with a .449 average (62-for-138) with 55 RBI, 43 runs scored, and 11 home runs. Kramer logged a 15-game hitting streak from March 12 through April 16 and had 11 multi-hit games during that stretch. Kramer went on a tear from March 30 through April 13, going 17-for-34 (.500) with 19 RBI, 14 runs scored, and six home runs during that stretch. He earned D3baseball.com Team of the Week honors for games played April 8-14 after slashing .563/.619/1.313 with 11 RBI, eight runs, and four home runs over a four-game stretch. Through games played May 14, Kramer ranks sixth nationally in RBI per game, 15th nationally in slugging, 24th nationally in average, and 41st in RBI.
Westrick, a three-time all-conference performer, hit .312 (49-for-157) this spring and scored 42 times. He was one of the team's top performers getting on base, reaching at a .424 clip on the strength of 28 walks. Elsewhere, Westrick added 20 RBI and 14 stolen bases. Wooster's shortstop logged a 19-game hitting streak spanning March 18 through April 21. Westrick logged six multi-hit games during that run, led by a 2-for-4 showing with three RBI and two runs scored in a 12-6 win over John Carroll University. Westrick capped his Wooster career with a 4-for-8 doubleheader at Wabash College.
Pett hit .293 (34-for-116) as a junior and played in 34 games. The left-handed hitter delivered a career year from a power standpoint with nine homers and a career-best 30 RBI. He homered in three straight games as part of an 8-for-17 week with six RBI and five runs scored between doubleheaders against Kenyon College and NCAC co-champion Denison University. Pett had a two-homer game against Adrian College on April 21 and tied the single-game program record with five stolen bases against Thiel College on the spring break trip.
Wooster posted a 17-21 record this spring.
