Wooster Sweeps NCAC Weekly Honors
Pett, Spring recognized at conference level
The College of Wooster baseball team has swept the North Coast Athletic Conference weekly honors for the second time this season. Senior outfielder Nick Pett was named NCAC Hitter of the Week and junior right-hander Jack Spring the NCAC Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.
Pett slashed .688/.650/1.250 during a 4-0 week for the Fighting Scots. He was 11-for-16 with 11 RBI, five runs scored, three doubles, and two homers. Pett went 5-for-8 with six RBI, three runs scored, two doubles, and a homer during Saturday's 15-12 and 13-3 sweep over Ohio Wesleyan University.
Pett had multiple hits in all four wins. He started the week with a 2-for-3 afternoon with three RBI in Tuesday's 13-4 win over La Roche University. On Wednesday, Pett went 4-for-5 with two RBI, two runs, and a solo homer during an 8-5 win over Heidelberg University.
Spring handcuffed Heidelberg for six innings on Wednesday. He allowed an unearned run on four hits while striking out seven. Spring worked a one-two-three third inning and retired the side in order following a leadoff walk in the fourth. Spring faced the minimum in the fifth inning despite a leadoff walk, as he promptly picked off the base runner at first base.
Earlier in the year, first-year infielder Maanav Bhatt and senior right-hander Alex Gerdenich were the hitter and pitcher of the week, respectively, following a season-opening split against Centre College.
Wooster (12-10, 2-0 NCAC) is at Oberlin College (7-12, 0-0 NCAC) for a noon doubleheader on Tuesday, April 1.
