Football's Terhune and Golfer Sword Nab NCAC Honors
Sophomores both named Player of the Week for first time
The North Coast Athletic Conference announced its Player of the Week honorees on Monday, and The College of Wooster had two sophomores elected, as defensive tackle Dan Terhune and golfer Blake Sword garnered this week's accolades in their respective sports.
Wooster's football team got its conference schedule started with a 37-20 win at Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday, and Terhune, who was making his first career start, led the Fighting Scots in tackles with 11 (three solo, eight assisted) as he clogged up the interior lanes time and time again. He also recovered a fumble in the second quarter on Ohio Wesleyan's 27-yard line that led to a Wooster touchdown drive. His key sack on 3rd-and-5 late in the third quarter forced the Battling Bishops into a tough fourth down, and Wooster capitalized with an 80-yard interception return that gave the Scots a 37-13 cushion.
Then on Monday, Sword shot a 75 at the par-72 Fox Meadow Country Club, to lead the Scots to a ninth place finish at the Ohio Athletic Conference Fall Invitational hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College. Sword had shot a 78 on Sunday, giving him a two-round total of 154 strokes, which tied him for eight place overall. It marked the third time this season that Sword has shot a 75 or lower in a round, as he also scored rounds of 72 and 75 earlier this fall.
