Holter's Career-High Yardage Yields NCAC and D3Football.com Weekly Honors
Scots' quarterback scores game-winning touchdown and amasses 424 total yards
Following a career game in which senior quarterback Austin Holter racked up a combined 424 yards of total offense, The College of Wooster's signal caller was named the North Coast Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week on Monday and the top quarterback on D3Football.com's Team of the Week on Tuesday.
Holter's statistical output on Saturday was remarkable, but most impressive was the 84-yard game-winning drive he orchestrated in which he scored on a 27-yard touchdown run to propel the Fighting Scots (4-2, 3-0 NCAC) to a 24-20 win over Washington University in St. Louis. The drive started with 6:13 remaining in the game, and Holter amassed 38 yards through the air and another 46 on the ground to spark the Wooster comeback.
On the day, Holter rushed for a career-high 152 yards, and picked up another 272 through the air, totaling 424 yards, which was a career-high and the third most in school history. He scored two passing touchdowns and rushed in the game-winner, bringing his combined touchdown total to 19 (14 pass, 5 rush) in just six games.
With each game that goes by, Holter continues to close in on several key all-time school records, including total yards gained in a season. Holter has now piled up 1,891 total yards (1,368 passing, 523 rushing), leaving him 822 yards shy of breaking his own record that he set in 2008 (2,712 yards). Another 669 passing yards would surpass the school record of 2,036 yards in a season (John Ramsier, 1992), and eight more passing scores would give Holter a record-setting 22 (Rich Judd, 1997).
The Scots, along with Wittenberg University (6-0, 4-0 NCAC), remain the only unbeaten schools in the league. Holter and company will look to keep that streak intact this Saturday when they host No. 18 ranked Wabash College (5-1, 3-1 NCAC) at John P. Papp Stadium for a 1 p.m. kick-off.
