Senior Bryan Albani, a defensive back and return specialist for The College of Wooster football team, was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team for the second year in a row, announced the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
Albani is a three-year starter at cornerback, having tallied 36 tackles (20 solos, 16 assists), three pass breakups, one interception, and one forced fumble in seven games this fall. In the return game, he's made a significant impact, averaging 31.9 yards per kickoff, which ranks third in NCAA Div. III. Albani has brought back two kicks for touchdowns, one a school-record 93 yards against then-No. 10 Case Western Reserve University on Oct. 10 and an 88-yarder in the season opener against Waynesburg University.
A chemistry major, member of the Dean's List, and winner of the school's LaShell scholarship for "general excellence," Albani has also excelled on the track throughout his athletic career with the Fighting Scots. He is a six-time all-North Coast Athletic Conference honoree in that sport and provisionally qualified for the 2009 NCAA Div. III Championships in the outdoor 110 hurdles (14.90).
The honorees were selected by CoSIDA among top players with minimum 3.30 grade-point averages from the college division (NCAA Div. II and III, and NAIA) in Wooster's five-state district (Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee).
