For the second consecutive season, The College of Wooster's Nick Flannery earned a spot on the Academic All-America First Team for football, announced the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday.

While it is the 13th Academic All-American® award a Wooster football player has received, Flannery is only the second to have been a back-to-back first-team honoree, with the first being Blake Moore (1977-79). Moore, currently a member of the College's board of trustees, played professionally for the Cincinnati Bengals and Green Bay Packers, then went to Harvard Law School before embarking on a highly-successful investment management career.

"Wow, anytime you can be mentioned in the same breath as Blake Moore, you've accomplished something really unique. I'm so happy for Nick," said Frank Colaprete, the third-year coach of the Fighting Scots. "(This award) shows how much hard work and determination Nick put into both his football and his academics. Nick's what you're looking for in a team captain and a college football player. He strives for excellence in everything he does."

Flannery, a four-year starter (38 consecutive games) on the offensive line, recently collected his second all-North Coast Athletic Conference recognition. This fall, he shifted from left tackle to center – one of the most important positions in Wooster's offense – and excelled as the Scots' up-tempo unit leads the league at 81.0 snaps per game. Flannery anchored a line that blocked for a new group of skill-position players, and the offense steadily improved throughout 2015, recording three of its four highest yardage totals – 496, 555, and 387 – during the season's last three games.

Flannery, who was a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's 2015 Campbell Trophy, is an outstanding scholar, currently sporting a 3.96 GPA as a psychology major. Inducted into Psi Chi (psychology honor society), he has been on the Dean's List all six semesters and been a two-time honoree on the NCAC Academic Honor Roll. Flannery intends to pursue a Ph.D. in either industrial or organizational psychology.
