Allstate AFCA Good Works Team nominee release
The College of Wooster's Sebestyen Balassy has been chosen by the Fighting Scots' football coaches as the program's Allstate American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team nominee for the 2024 season. Allstate and the AFCA announced the full list of nominees on Wednesday.
Balassy is a leadership counselor for a group of Boy Scouts and serves as a mentor focusing on personal development and Hungarian tradition. He helps lead the parking coordination for Saint Ambrose Catholic Parish in Brunswick, Ohio, for its annual four-day summer festival. Additionally, Balassy is the chief executive officer for a company that specializes in marketing, social media, and investments. On campus, Balassy assists with the team's annual National Marrow Donor Program registry events.
On the field, the business economics major stepped into the starting tight end role in 2023 and ranked within the top five on the team in receptions (20) and yards (182). He opened the year with a career-high five receptions at Wilmington College and followed it up with a career-high 41 yards against The University of Olivet.
Established in 1992, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team is one of the top off-the-field honors in college football. Nominees must be actively involved with a charitable organization or service group while maintaining strong academic standing to be eligible for nomination and each institution whose coach is an AFCA member may nominate just one player per season. The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team will be announced in September. Alumnus Patrick Mohorcic made the prestigious team in 2017, won the fan vote for the team's captain, and was interviewed live on ESPN as part of The Home Depot College Football Awards.
