Hammer a Campbell Trophy Semifinalist
Senior wide receiver nominated for college football's top academic honor

Andrew Hammer, a starting wide receiver on The College of Wooster's football team, was announced as a semifinalist for the 2024 William V. Campbell Trophy by the National Football Foundation on Wednesday morning.
Hammer, in his third year as a starter, has 116 yards on 14 catches with one touchdown through three games in 2024. Over his career, Hammer has amassed 979 yards and 11 touchdowns on 76 receptions. His best year was in 2023, when the then-junior ranked second on the team with 477 receiving yards. As a junior, Hammer hauled in 39 passes, seven of which went for touchdowns.
The classical studies and economics double major is a two-time College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District® selection and qualified for Wooster's Athletic Director's Honor Roll both semesters it has been awarded. The four-year standout is a two-time member of the North Coast Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll.
For his Independent Study, Hammer is looking at monetary policies and information spillovers of the Federal Reserve and the impact on investments in the United States. Hammer has worked for Vector Marketing since 2023, starting as a Cutco Cutlery sales representative. He has since earned several promotions, most recently to assistant manager. As assistant manager, Hammer helps with recruiting staff members and leads day-to-day operations in the organization's Wooster and Akron offices. He was accepted into Vector's leadership academy management training program twice and managed his own satellite office this past summer.
The Campbell Trophy is widely considered the academic Heisman. Each school may nominate one candidate each year. Nominees must be a senior in their final year of eligibility or a graduate student who has already earned a degree and is participating in the current season. Nominees must have at least a 3.2 GPA, have outstanding football ability as a starter or significant contributor, and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.
The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on October 23, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2024 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. The finalists will travel to Las Vegas for the NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas on December 10, and one will be declared the winner of the Campbell Trophy and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000.
