Amanda
Artman became just the sixth player in College of Wooster field
hockey history to reach 100 career points, however, it came in a
losing effort as rival Wittenberg University knocked off the
Fighting Scots 4-2 Saturday morning at Springfield, Ohio.
Artman, a junior, accounted for both Wooster goals, which gives
her 101 points (39 goals, 23 assists) in just 37 career games. She
missed all but one game and one half of her sophomore season due to
injury.
Wittenberg (9-5, 6-4 NCAC) broke out to a 3-0 halftime lead, keyed
by two scores just 2:58 apart late in the first. Despite what the
scoreboard read, it had been an evenly played half with each squad
attempting six shots.
The Scots (10-4, 7-1 NCAC) made things interesting with a tally
6:54 into the second half, as Artman emerged from a penalty corner
with an unassisted goal. The Tigers' Boo Vernon, though, helped
seal the win with her third goal of the day at the 15:04 mark.
Artman contributed a late score, coming on a penalty corner again,
this time with an assist from Stephanie
Standera.
Wooster will be right back in action Sunday at DePauw University
(8-2).
