WOOSTER, Ohio - The College of Wooster field hockey team snapped
a two-game losing streak Wednesday afternoon against North Coast
Athletic Conference foe Denison University, behind a goal from
junior Amanda Artman
and sophomore Briana Lynch.
The Fighting Scots came away with a 2-0 triumph and improved their
overall record to 11-5 and 8-1 in league play, while the Big Red
fell to 3-12 and 2-7 in the NCAC.
Wooster dominated the first half offensively, firing off 13 shots
while the visitors weren't able to muster one, and taking seven
more penalty corners (8-1). The lone score of the opening stanza
came off the stick of Artman with 14:45 left, as she picked up a
loose ball just outside the circle, took three dribbles toward the
middle of the Denison defense, and laced a shot past Denison
goalkeeper Kait Fiore for her 20th goal of the campaign.
In the second half, Denison fired off seven shots to the Scots' 10
looks at the goal, but freshman goalkeeper Madalyn Myers
held firm with two saves.
Wooster, meanwhile, doubled its goal tally on the scoreboard
thanks to Lynch. With just over 28 minutes remaining in the game,
Lynch slapped a rebound that came off Fiore's pads into the left
side of the box for Wooster's second score of the game and Lynch's
11th of the season.
Myers recorded all her saves in the second half to notch her
fourth shutout this fall.
Wooster continues conference play this Saturday when it travels to
Richmond, Ind. and squares off with Earlham College (6-8, 3-6 NCAC)
at 1 p.m.
