The College of Wooster went on a 4-0 scoring barrage during the
second half of action Tuesday afternoon following a 2-2 tie at
halftime, and posted a 6-3 win in their North Coast Athletic
Conference opener over host Oberlin College in field hockey
action.
Individually, junior forward Amanda Artman
had a big day for Wooster, which improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in
the conference. She posted her second career eight-point game with
three goals and two assists, a feat she also accomplished on Sept.
30, 2006 in Wooster's 7-0 victory over Earlham College.
Tuesday's contest was the tale of two halves. Trailing 1-0, Artman
notched her initial goal of the game on a penalty corner at nearly
the midway point of the opening stanza. Just over six minutes
later, Artman continued to put the pressure on, putting the Scots
up by a 2-1 count with an unassisted tally.
Oberlin (1-6, 0-4 NCAC) knotted the score with just less than two
minutes left in the stanza, and the game was tied 2-2 headed into
the halftime break.
With the game deadlocked at 2-2, Artman dished out back-to-back
assists on goals by Briana Lynch
with 27:24 remaining, and Elizabeth
Dwyer with 15:16 left, giving Wooster a 4-2 advantage. The game
would stay a two-score bulge in Wooster's favor until Artman scored
her third goal of the match with 2:33 remaining. The hat trick was
Artman's first this season, and fourth of her
career.
Lynch slapped in a late goal for Wooster, while Oberlin added a
score for the final 6-3 count.
The Scots look to keep their unblemished NCAC record in tact when
they return home and host Earlham College (1-4, 0-2 NCAC) on
Saturday at 1 p.m. at Cindy Barr Memorial Field.
