WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster junior Amanda Artman
exploded for her second hat trick in as many games Saturday
afternoon, leading the Fighting Scots past visiting Earlham College
5-1 during North Coast Athletic Conference action.
It marks the fifth three-goal effort by Artman in just 29 career
games, including tallying hat tricks in back-to-back contests for
the second time in her career.
Getting the scoring started for Wooster was sophomore Eileen Barrer,
who connected on her sixth goal of the season on a helper from
Artman with just 6:58 elapsed. That was followed by Artman's first
goal of the game 1:14 later, an unassisted breakaway tally, giving
the Scots (4-2, 2-0 NCAC) a quick 2-0 lead.
Earlham (1-5, 0-3 NCAC) got on the board, and cut the Wooster lead
in half just 26 seconds later via Cassie Gage's first score of the
season.
Wooster's offense wasn't finished yet in the opening half, as
Artman tipped in a Stephanie
Standera pass with 3:16 remaining, pushing the Scots to a 3-1
halftime advantage.
Out of the intermission, Wooster continued to keep the offensive
pressure up, but weren't able to find the back of the Quaker net.
Then, with just under three minutes left, the match's key sequence
came when Wooster scored back-to-back goals just :45 apart. Briana
Lynch tapped in a Nina Dine pass for
her fifth goal of the season, followed by Artman's second
unassisted breakaway goal of the match for the final 5-1 bulge.
Freshman Madalyn Myers
and the Wooster defense kept the Earlham offense in check, limiting
the Quakers to just seven shots with Myers recording three saves in
the victory. Katherine McDonough was credited with 10 saves for the
visitors.
The Scots will look to keep their NCAC record perfect when they
travel to Granville and square off with Denison University (2-5,
2-1 NCAC) on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
