Scots’ Comeback Bid Comes Up Just Short

The College of Wooster scored two goals in the late stages of
the second half Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't enough as Ithaca
College rattled off a 5-0 spurt in the opening stanza en route to a
6-5 non-conference field hockey victory at Yavits Field. With the
loss, Wooster goes to 2-1, while the Bombers improve to the .500
mark at 1-1.
The Scots came out on the offensive, tallying a quick goal just
1:25 into the game. Junior forward Brittany
Montgomery knocked home her first score of the season, giving
her 23 for her career, on an assist from sophomore Nina Dine.
The Bombers scored the next five goals covering 12:39 of action,
and raced out to a 5-1 advantage.
Looking to cut into the lead headed to the intermission, sophomore
Briana
Lynch scored on a helper by Dine, making it a three-goal
deficit at 5-2.
Wooster began its comeback bid on Amanda
Artman's first of two unassisted goals with just over 28
minutes left in regulation. Ithaca scored its lone goal of the
second half with 25:02 left, but goals by Eileen Barrer,
with an assist from Artman, and Artman's second of the day brought
the Fighting Scots to within one at 6-5. However, Wooster couldn't
put home the equalizer in the setback.
Statistically, Wooster managed 19 shots compared to 15 by the home
team. Also of note, the visitors held a 14-10 advantage in penalty
corners.
Wooster has little time to relax, as it hits the field Sunday
concluding its two-game trip to New York squaring off Sunday with
the University of Rochester (2-1) at 1 p.m.
