WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster scored twice within
the first 6:30 of the 2008 field hockey season on its way to a
comfortable 3-1 victory over visiting Transylvania University
Saturday afternoon.
Amanda
Artman, who missed all but a game and one half of last year due
to injury, struck just 42 seconds into the action, as the Fighting
Scots' leading scorer in 2006 found the back of the cage via an
assist from Eileen Barrer.
Less than six minutes later, Nina Dine
maneuvered her way through the Transylvania defense en route to an
unassisted goal.
Wooster (1-0) continued to dictate the action throughout the first
half, owning a 17-1 shot advantage. One more of those attempts
found its target, as Barrer scored to make it 3-0 with just under
10 minutes remaining. She was assisted by Briana
Lynch.
There were few offensive opportunities for either team in the
second. The Pioneers did avoid the shutout, tallying a goal around
the midway point. That was one of just four shots Transylvania got
off all game, while the Scots ended up with 24.
Wooster will be right back in action Sunday morning when they host
Centre College at 11 a.m.
