WOOSTER, Ohio - The College of Wooster field hockey team
increased its winning streak to seven in a row, thrashing the Ohio
Wesleyan Batting Bishops to the tune of 4-0 in a battle of North
Coast Athletic Conference unbeatens Tuesday afternoon at Cindy Barr
Memorial Field.
With the win, Wooster improved to 9-2 overall and a perfect 6-0 in
the NCAC, while Ohio Wesleyan slipped to 7-4 and 5-1 in the
conference.
Right from the get-go, the Fighting Scots controlled play on both
ends of the field, breaking the scoreless tie just over 14 minutes
into the action. Sophomore Briana Lynch
tipped in a loose ball off a scramble in front of the cage for her
10th goal of the season. Just under six minutes later, junior Amanda
Artman broke behind the Ohio Wesleyan defense, forcing Batting
Bishop goalkeeper Krista Murray to come off her line. Artman
slipped a nifty pass to sophomore Elieen Barrer, who calmly buried
the feed in the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.
Wooster tallied twice more during the second stanza. First, Artman
notched her team-high 15th goal on a penalty stroke with 30:29
remaining in regulation. The Fighting Scots recorded the final
score on Brittany
Montgomery's second goal of the season with 5:04 left on a
penalty corner via an assist from freshman Maddie Hart. The
assist marked Hart's first collegiate point.
Overall, Wooster possessed a decided advantage in shots (28-6),
penalty corners (13-5), and freshman net-minder Madalyn Myers
made six saves aided by the Wooster defensive unit helping her
preserve her second shutout of the campaign.
Next, the Scots will jump out of NCAC play and look to keep their
perfect record intact at home when they host Frostburg State
University (9-3) on Saturday at 11 a.m.
