The College of Wooster and its high-powered offense, led by Amanda
Artman, kept rolling Wednesday night, as the Fighting Scots
came away from Washington & Jefferson College with a 4-1 win in
non-conference field hockey action.
Wooster (7-2), which had the 14th-best scoring average in the most
recent NCAA Div. III statistics (3.93 gpg), scored four or more
goals for the fourth time in five games. The Scots rattled the cage
twice over the first 12:15 of Wednesday's match-up, with Nina Dine taking
it herself for an unassisted goal during a penalty corner and then
Artman delivering a pass for an Eileen Barrer
goal.
It would remain 2-0 until early in the second half when Artman
slapped in her first goal, thanks to an assist from Brittany
Montgomery. Washington & Jefferson (5-4) converted a
penalty corner around the midway point of the half, but Wooster
quickly erased any thoughts of a comeback with another Artman goal,
this time assisted by Dine on a penalty corner.
Artman is now up to 36 points (14 goals, 8 assists) on the season,
while another big part of the Scot win was goalie Madalyn Myers,
who posted eight saves.
Next, Wooster has a key North Coast Athletic Conference clash at
Kenyon College (5-4, 4-0 NCAC) on Saturday at 11 a.m.
