NFHCA Honors Artman as First-Team All-American

Amanda Artman of The College of Wooster was one of 16 players nationwide selected to the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Div. III All-America First Team, the organization announced Tuesday. With the recognition, Artman becomes Wooster's first three-time All-American in program history, and she's the Fighting Scots' first first-team All-American since Kate Dunne in 2001.

Artman, previously selected as the NFHCA Great Lakes Region Player of the Year as well as the North Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, finished the 2009 season as Div. III's seventh-leading scorer at 2.83 points per game. She also ranked fifth nationally in goals (1.22 gpg). Overall, Artman scored 28 goals as part of a 65-point season – both league bests. Both totals also marked the third-highest for a single-season in school history.

During this past year, Artman broke both the NCAC's and Wooster's career scoring marks, finishing at 189 points (2.78 ppg). She has 77 goals, tying her with Wittenberg University's Amy Kraus (1994-97) for the conference record in that category, while her 35 assists is one short of Wooster's Meghan McLaughlin (1994-97) for another NCAC mark.

Artman was one of the leaders of a team that went 17-6 – the most wins for the Fighting Scots since 1981 (21-4). Wooster earned a share of its fourth-straight conference championship and won its second NCAC Tournament in a row. Most impressive, the Scots defeated Hamilton College 2-1 during the opening round of the NCAA Div. III Field Hockey Championship for their second NCAA postseason victory of all-time before losing to eventual national champion Salisbury University 4-0.
