Field Hockey's Academic Success Brings NFHCA Honors

During an impressive and lengthy season that saw The College of Wooster field hockey team advance to the second round in the Div. III NCAA Tournament, the Scots were also excelling in the classroom, and its dedication to academics was honored recently. Wooster received the 2009 Div. III National Academic Team Award, and seven individuals student-athletes were named to the Div. III National Academic Squad, as presented by Gladiator by SGI and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

In order to win the team award, the Scots needed to achieve a 3.0 GPA or higher as a team, but several individuals surpassed that requirement and were named to the academic squad.

That list includes junior midfielder Kate Valora, who tallied seven points (5 goals, 2 assists) and was one of only three Wooster players to start in all 23 games. Key cogs in Wooster's defensive efforts, senior Kate Quinlivan, sophomore Lauren Grimanis, and freshman Dana Feit, also made the squad, while freshmen Isabelle Howes, Elizabeth Plumley, and Laura German rounded out the list of student-athletes receiving individual accolades.
