Artman Provides Game Winner in OT, Lifting Wooster Past Rhodes 4-3

Amanda Artman deflected in a long crossing pass from Stephanie Standera 4:33 into overtime, completing a 4-3 comeback victory for The College of Wooster over Rhodes College during a neutral-site match-up in Lexington, Ky., on Saturday.

Rhodes (0-1) used a three-goal run to take a 3-1 cushion into halftime, only to see Wooster (2-0) quickly tie it up during the second with a pair of scores within the opening 11:37. Eileen Barrer punched in a rebound off the goalkeeper's pads 84 seconds into the stanza to make it 3-2 and about 10 minutes later Artman fed Maddie Hart for a goal. Both defenses would settle in from there, forcing the extra session.

The Fighting Scots controlled play in overtime, taking six shots to the Lynx's zero, and the sixth one found its target as Standera sent a diagonal to Artman for the game-winner.

Artman also scored the initial goal of the contest and ended up with her second five-point outing in a row. Her four goals this season have elevated her career total to 53, moving her into second-place on the school's all-time list Saturday.

Another key to Wooster's win was the play of goalkeeper Madalyn Myers, who tallied a career-high 19 saves – eight more than the sophomore's previous best.

For Rhodes, Lindsey Gurkovich accounted for two goals, both assisted by Libby Jones on continuation plays after penalty corners, and Meghan Cullen came up with 16 saves in the setback.

The Scots will stay in Lexington for the night and play Transylvania University (0-0) Sunday at noon.
