Scots Strike for Seven Goals Again in Win at Earlham

The College of Wooster had a seven-goal outburst for the second time in three days, and it was more than enough to get past Earlham College 7-2 in a North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey tilt Saturday afternoon at Richmond, Ind.

Wooster (5-0, 3-0 NCAC), which shut down Oberlin College 7-0 on Thursday, fell behind 1-0 and 2-1 in the early going against Earlham (2-2, 0-2 NCAC), only to put together a three-goal run over the final 11:31 of the first half to double-up the hosts 4-2. Two of those scores came from an unlikely source of offense, as junior Kate Valora, primarily a force on the defensive end, connected on the first goals of her career. They were both unassisted and came with 9:48 and 2:16 on the clock.

The Fighting Scots took further control of the game during the second half, outshooting the Quakers by a 14-5 margin the second 35 minutes. Amanda Artman notched her second goal of the game with an assist coming from Isabelle Howes to take a 5-2 cushion about 14 minutes into the stanza. Less than two minutes later, Eileen Barrer matched Artman with a second goal, and Laura German capped the day's scoring with an unassisted tally at the 9:55 mark.

On the defensive end, Wooster 'keeper Madalyn Myers was kept busy as she recorded her second double-digit save total of the season with 11.

The Scots will make their 2009 home debut on Wednesday, as they continue NCAC action with a visit from Ohio Wesleyan University (3-2, 2-0 NCAC) at 4:30 p.m.
