Artman Breaks NCAC Record in 6-2 Win Over Oberlin

WOOSTER, Ohio – Amanda Artman became the North Coast Athletic Conference's all-time leading scorer in field hockey on Thursday, highlighting The College of Wooster's 6-2 triumph over Oberlin College at an overcast Cindy Barr Memorial Field.

After being held scoreless in back-to-back games, just the third time in her career and first since her freshman season that has happened, Artman resumed her dominance with a two-goal, one-assist outing. The senior forward's record-breaking tally came with 10:39 on the clock as she quickly rebounded in a goal after the ball had been initially saved off an attempt by Maddie Hart.

That score broke a tie between Artman and Wittenberg University's Amy Kraus, who amassed 165 points (77 goals, 11 assists) from 1994-97, for the NCAC career record, and Artman would complete the day with 170 (69 goals, 32 assists).

It also gave Wooster (10-3, 7-1 NCAC) a 3-0 advantage at the time, following a pair of Kate Valora goals. Valora connected on a pair of shots from the right wing, first assisted by Stephanie Standera at the 17:40 mark and then by Brittany Montgomery 2:31 later.

Not long after the aforementioned Artman tally, Eileen Barrer finished an Artman pass with 6:59 left in the opening half. Shortly thereafter, Artman rattled the cage again after receiving a feed from Laura German, which gave the Scots a 5-0 cushion. That ended up capping a scoring spree of five goals over just 14:58, and Artman was pulled at the time (2:42) and did not play the remainder of the game.

Oberlin (0-8, 0-7 NCAC) averted the shutout 14:23 into the second half, while Cassandra Bucceri was the highlight of Wooster's second half as the freshman scored her first career goal on a putback after Amanda Graeser's shot had been stopped.

In goal for the Scots, Madalyn Myers only needed to make one save in the first half and then tallied seven during the second before being relieved late.

On Saturday, Wooster travels to rival Wittenberg University (7-3, 5-2 NCAC).
