Wooster Edges DePauw 2-1 for 12th Win of the Year

In its final non-conference tilt of the 2009 season, The College of Wooster field hockey team constructed a two-goal lead and held off visiting DePauw University 2-1 on Ed and Edie Andrew Turf Field at John P. Papp Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Wooster (12-5), playing just its third home game on the turf, scored late in the first half and early in the second en route to the 2-0 lead. With 5:36 remaining before halftime, Amanda Graeser rattled the cage for her second goal this season, assisted by Clare Nelson-Johnson. And 7:39 into the second, the familiar combination of Amanda Artman and Eileen Barrer joined forces for a score, with Artman recording the goal and Barrer the assist.

DePauw (9-6) would turn up the pressure in an effort to get back into the game and made good on one opportunity, as Addie McDonnell punched a goal in at the 11:50 mark. The Fighting Scots' defense thwarted off the Tigers the rest of the way to seal the one-goal victory.

In net, Madalyn Myers notched seven saves for Wooster and she received help from teammate Lauren Grimanis, who recorded a defensive save from her back position.

Next, the Scots will host North Coast Athletic Conference foe Denison University (9-6, 5-4 NCAC) Wednesday afternoon.
