No. 2 Salisbury Eliminates Wooster in NCAA’s Second Round

The College of Wooster hung close with No. 2 ranked Salisbury University for about 40 minutes of the teams' NCAA Div. III Field Hockey Championship second-round game, but a three-goal explosion for the host Seagulls early in the second half was too much for the Fighting Scots to overcome as Salisbury prevailed 4-0 on Saturday morning.

It marks the end of a special season for Wooster, as it finishes with a 17-6 record, a second-straight North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament championship, and most impressive, the program's second NCAA postseason win of all-time, a 2-1 comeback victory over Hamilton College at home on Wednesday. The Scots' 17 wins were the highest total for the program since the 1981 campaign (21-4).

On Saturday, Wooster trailed just 1-0 at halftime to the four-time national champions, thanks in large part to seven saves by goalkeeper Madalyn Myers.

The Scots' defense eventually broke down, though, allowing three scores during a 4:42 stretch of the second, which sealed the outcome. Caitlin Walker connected on her second goal of the day, followed by Beverly Beladino and Tara McGovern with the others.

Myers wound up with nine saves, while Wooster's explosive offense, which averaged 3.52 goals, was shutout for just the third time this year.
